Corporate Responsibility towards Menstrual Hygiene: Insights from Everteen’s 2023 Survey

An overview of key insights from Everteen's 8th Annual Menstrual Hygiene Survey 2023

The 8th Annual Everteen Menstrual Hygiene Survey 2023 sheds light on the role of corporations in promoting menstrual hygiene and supporting women’s health. Nearly 10,000 women between the ages of 18 to 35 from across various Indian cities took part in this comprehensive survey.

According to the findings, an overwhelming 73% of women expressed the desire for companies to provide menstrual leaves. This suggests a significant gap in current corporate policies that needs to be addressed. However, the survey also revealed that 71.7% of women do not want these leaves to be paid, expressing concerns that such policies may make companies hesitant to hire female employees.

Interestingly, the survey revealed that 86.6% of women are in favor of a menstrual-friendly workplace, a space where the subject of menstruation can be discussed openly, and menstrual hygiene support is readily available. These findings suggest a strong demand for more understanding and supportive workplaces that acknowledge and accommodate the needs of menstruating women.

The Everteen survey also found that many women are reluctant to discuss menstruation in their workplaces. Only 5.2% of women felt comfortable discussing their menstrual periods with their manager, while nearly 40% preferred not to discuss it at all, even with female colleagues. This emphasizes the need for a more open and supportive culture around menstruation in corporate settings.
